The SOCHUM Committee is the third of the six General Assembly committees of the UN, which deals with issues pertaining to humanitarian affairs, social and cultural complications and human rights violations in the regional and global scale. The focal point of this committee is the evaluation and examination of issues that involve human rights violations, including reports on the special procedures of the Human Rights Committee. Other topics discussed within this committee also include questions linked with the empowerment of women, safeguarding minors, the management, and treatment of refugees, combating racial discrimination in order to promote basic human rights, ensuring the right of self-determination and resolving issues related to the indigenous peoples.
